4 Dead As Cultists Clash In University Of Uyo
Three students have been confirmed dead, following the clash between Black Axe and Vikings Confraternities at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Police Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom Command, Superintendent of Police Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Uyo.
According to him, the police Command was aware of the incident and is bdoing everything possible to prevent future occurrence of the incident.
According to SP MacDon, the Commissioner of Police had scheduled a meeting with the management of the university with a view of adopting new strategies on how to tackle the menace and ensure adequate security at the campus.
A student of the university who spoke to with journalists on condition of anonymity lamented the incessant attacks from cult groups apparently operating from outside the university. He explained that one student was killed at the main campus while three students were killed at the Nwaniba campus.
Speaking further, he added “during the last matriculation, they were rival cult clashes Just yesterday, one student was shot during the clash between two cult groups. Three students were killed at the main campus. The students called on the state government and the management of the university to intervene”.
The University Director of Information, Mrs. Blossom Okorie confirmed the incident but declined to speak. According to her, “we have reported the matter to the police and I cannot speak further on the issue, she said”.
