2023: SDP Candidate, Ojamomi Drags APC’s Akinruntan to Court Over Ilaje Assembly Election
The recently concluded House of Assembly election in the Ilaje Constituency 1 area of Ondo State has taken a new twist as the result of the said election is being contested in Court.
The Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Barr. Fadeshola Ojamomi, popular known as Ogo-Ilaje has dragged the Billionaire Monarch’s (Olugbo of Ugbo) son, Akinruntan Abayomi to the Election Petition Tribunal.
The Abuja based lawyer who came second in the contest as announced by INEC has raised fundamental issues in the grounds for petition and may likely give highly revered Oba Frederick Akinruntan’s first born a big fight at the Tribunal.
Akinruntan Abayomi, who is said to have been meeting with Stakeholders and the newly elected Assembly members on his quest to become the next speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly is now confronted with a major challenge of securing his seat as a Third term member of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
The petition states that Abayomi was not duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast at the 2023 Ondo State House of Assembly Election.
Ojamomi is also challenging INEC and the APC candidate on the grounds that the said election was invalid by reason of corrupt practices or substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended). Also, that Abayomi was, at the time of election not qualified to contest the election. etc.
The facts contained in the petition are weighty and might likely affect not only the decision of the Tribunal but also pose an integrity test on the major stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ilaje Constituency 1.
