2019: Groups Hold Peace Dialogue Ahead Of General Election

The Life and Peace Development Organization in collaboration with Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room on Thursday held a Peace talk with stakeholders in Preparation for the 2019 election in Ondo state.

The conference held in Akure, the Ondo state capital City with the purpose of encouraging the participation of women and Persons with Disabilities in voting exercise, had in attendance, security agencies, traditional Institutions, NURTW representatives and INEC officials among other Interested groups.

According to the Convener of Life and Peace Development Organization, Mr. Franklin Oloniju, the event was held because of the vulnerability of women and PWDs during electioneering and voting exercise.

He added that the meeting was to bring the major stakeholders to agree on a peaceful voting exercise during the election and encourage more participation of women and PWDs.

Also speaking at the event, the Representative of the Nigerian Police, Mr. Ehichwa Emmanuel assured the Participants of the Preparedness of the Police to protect lives and properties, and Prevent violence during the voting exercise. He however pleaded for the assistance of the citizens in the area of provision of helpful information as regards violence prone areas and other activities that could lead to violence.

Also present at the meeting were youths, women and persons with disabilities (PWD) representatives.

Mr. Alo Martin, a human right activist and supporter of the program while speaking with our correspondent also urged members of the civil society organisations to play their roles in the election and do the needful on prevention of vote buying.

Stakeholders at the end of the meeting took tone to sign a peace pact for a hitch free voting exercise.
