Terrible Weekend In Ondo As 10 Die In Multiple Road Crashes In Akungba Akoko, Ore
Multiple road crashes on Sunday at Ajibamidele axis of Benin-Ore-lagos expressway and Akungba Akoko in Ondo state claimed at least ten lives.
The Lagos-Ore expressway crash, said to have happened about 10am on Sunday , involved a black Mercedes Benz jeep with registration number EPE 144 EW going to Lagos and and a blue Toyota Carina car with number plate KTP 580 RG heading to Igbotako, Okitipupa local government area of the state.
An eyewitness said the driver of the jeep noticed a road diversion in the expressway and moved to the other lane where it collided with the other vehicle killing all the seven occupants in the including the driver.
He said men of the Ondo State Police Command had moved the driver of the Jeep to the Omotosho Police Station to save him from the angry mob.
the Head of Operations Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ondo State, Olusegun Ogungbemide while confirming the accident, however said six persons were killed and one other injured.
He said: “Yes,I can confirm that the accident happened at Ago-Idogun along the express way and our men were on ground for rescue mission where six persons died and one person was injured.”
Ogungbemide said the accident occurred as a result of over speeding and loss of control, advising motorists to always exercise patience while driving on the highway.
In Akungba Akoko, Four persons including a woman and her two grandchildren were crushed to death when a trailer rammed into the Ibaka market by the roadside.
An eyewitness, Mr Muritala Rauf explained that the truck with registration number LSD 509 XM had a brake failure while coming from ikare axis and lost control before ramming into a road side market in the town.
The Ondo State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Vincent Jack said the Akungba Akoko accident occurred at the Popular Ibaka market in the town, where four persons died and two other severely injured.
The FRSC boss said: “the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the State Specialists Hospital in Ikare Akoko while the injured were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.”
He urged motorists to always avoid overspending and mindful of traffic rules and regulations.
