2019: Saraki Blasts Oshiomhole, Calls For His Resignation
Senate President, Bukola Saraki has faulted the position of Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressive’s Congress on speaking against corruption in Nigerian politics.
He said the ruling party chairman lacks moral grounds to do so since he has been dragged into bribery within the party.
Saraki made the statement in Ilorin on Wednesday, during a remembrance ceremony held in honour of his late father, Oloye Olusola Saraki.
Recall, the Department of State Services (DSS) had detained Oshiomhole on Sunday after some APC governors alleged that he received bribes during the party’s primary elections across the country.
Following this allegation, Saraki also asked that the former Edo governor resigns as the party’s chairman, noting that his predecessor, Chief John Oyegun was never accused of bribery while occupying same position.
“Oshiomhole has no locus stand to talk about morality in today’s Nigeria’s politics. That must be a joke coming from Oshiomhole talking about moral ground,” Saraki said.
“Oshiomhole is somebody who has been said to have been collecting not even naira but dollars from candidates and he is being accused by his party’s aspirants and governors.
“I don’t think he has any moral ground, even to continue to be in politics not to talk about being a chairman of a party.
“I remember in those days even Oyegun, they never accused him of something like this. I have left that party.
I’m sure the president, based on integrity, knows the right thing to do. So, on moral ground, he cannot speak on moral ground.”
Since Saraki decamped from APC to Peoples Democratic Party in July ending this year, Oshiomhole has been fronting the call for his impeachment as the President of the Senate if he refuses to honorably resigns.
His stance has been hinged on the fact that his new party does not command the majority seats of the upper chamber of National Assembly, hence the need t rip him off the position of the number 3 in Nigeria.
He has been found buttressing with the instance of Senator Godswill Akpabio from Akwa Ibom, who resigned as the majority leader having decamped to APC.
