Gabriel Ogunjobi

The Nigerian Police has justified the activities of its investigative unit of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) within the country against the manhandling allegations that have been levied against it by Nigerians in the recent times.

Convened by Segun Awosanya, EndSARS campaign is an advocacy against the Special Anti Robbery Squad. The campaign started as a social media campaign using the hashtag to demand that Nigeria’s government should scrap and end of the deployment of SARS.

With a captioned video on Twitter yesterday’s morning, the Head of Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle said the Nigerian Police can never be as brutal as the Ghanian policeman beating a nursing mother in a bank.

He made an attempt to flaw EndSARS campaign with the video clip and tweet.

“WE (@PoliceNG) WILL NEVER DO THIS IN NIGERIA 🇳🇬!
A Ghanaian 🇬🇭 policeman beating a nursing mother in Rambo-style inside a banking hall in Accra today.
Hope #EndSARS people can see the real police brutality”, he tweeted with the accompanying video.

The police head also advised Nigerians to always be calm to yield to simple instructions of police during their “stop and search” activities and lodge complaints in the case any misconduct by the security operatives is perceived.

“I think it ended peacefully because he did not show any resistance.
Always stay calm and obey simple police instructions during stop and search.
Report police misconduct thereafter, #EndSARS we have @PoliceNG_PCRRU in Nigeria”, Shogunle added as he posted an video to buttress his position.

  • This is height of irresponsibility and shamelessness. Harassing, stealing money and smart phones from young guys conveniently labelled Yahoo boys by SARS & committing heinous crimes is what SARSis known for; nothing more. Shame on SARS
