UPDATE: AAUA Shutdown over students death
Following the death of two students recorded in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo state. The management of the University has on Sunday announced a two weeks break of all academic activities for the it’s students.
Nigerian cable news online Reported that
the school lost a male student to gunshot injuries from unknown gunmen, and another female student to an undisclosed illness speculated to be a Lassa Fever infection.
The University acting Registrar, Mr. Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa in a follow-up statement today said the management has approved a mid-semester break which starts with immediate effect for all students.
The statement reads in part:
“As a follow-up to the earlier memo conveying the University Management’s heartfelt condolences to the University community and the families of the deceased on recent painful loss of our students and the subsequent postponement of the First Semester Examinations, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved a two-week Mid-Semester Break for all students with immediate effect.”
“This is to enable our students refresh and prepare well for the First Semester Examinations for 2019/2020 academic session on resumption.”
“Students are, however, expected to resume for the continuation of the First Semester, 2019/2020 academic calendar on Monday, 22nd March, 2020.”
