Saraki Blasts IGP Over Police Siege On Melaye’s House
Idris Ibrahim, the Inspector General of Police has come under strong criticism from Senate President, Bukola Saraki for ordering the siege on the residence of Nigerian Senator, Dino Melaye over the weekend.
In a statement by Saraki, he condemned the IGP and accused him of being a tool for the ruling All Progressive Congress – led Federal Government, which is questionable to his duties.
Saraki also referred to the declining of Idris Ibrahim’s invitation to the summoning of National Assembly some months back on the ground of his rights, adding that whereas he is making efforts to trample on Melaye’s rights.
“This desperation to haul Senator Melaye in is beyond normal. This same IGP who refused to honour the Senate invitation to give information on the security situation in the country and rushed to court to seek protection of his rights is now violating the rights of other people.
“It has not gone without notice that Senator Melaye is a member of the opposition. We cannot remember any member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) being treated in this manner.
“Even the APC Member who allegedly led thugs to forcefully seize the mace while the Senate was in session — in the full glare of television cameras, is still roaming the streets free without prosecution”, the Senate President emphasized.
On Friday, policemen numbering about 30 had invaded Melaye’s Abuja residence to effect his arrest over a case of alleged attempted culpable homicide” against him.

Saraki is a disgrace to this nation
