JUST IN: Youths Protest 12 Years Blackout In Ilaje
Youths from Ilaje Local government in Ondo state on Saturday took to the streets in the riverine community to demand light restoration after twelve years without power supply.

The Youths who gathered under the auspices of the Ilaje advancement Forum, start their movement at about 10:00am in with a little above 200 participants. Who converged at Ilaje High School and moved to the market area and major roads in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the local government.

According to one of the protesters, Bar. Ojamomi Fadeshola, in a chat with Nigeriancablenewsonline.com, the protest became imperative because of the nonchalant attitude of Ilaje Political Leaders toward the restoration of light.
He said:
“The protest is aimed at awakening the people of Ilaje Local Government on the need to hold our Political and Traditional leaders accountable for the Total Electricity shutdown in the local govt for the past 12yrs.”
“It’s also aimed at telling the global village of the problems we are facing in ilaje local govt ranging from Bad Road Network, unavailability of portable and drinkable water, dilapidated health care facilies, Unemployment, Thuggery, persistence increase in Crime Rate, Sales of Amnesty Schorlaship by political leaders, sales of job offers by traditional leaders, poor management in Osopadec, lack of representatives in NDDC among others”

Asked what the next line of action may possibly be, if the said leaders fail to act promptly to their demand. Fadeshola said they will not allow the conduct of 2019 election in the area, without light restoration.

He further said:
“Our next possible action is a 2000-Men-March Against Bad Governance. Followed by an official letter to INEC never to consider Ilaje local government in the planning of the 2019 election because election won’t take place until electricity is restored. Modalities have been put in place to ensure that is achieved”

The movement orchestrated by six major persons including: Ehinmowo Tokunbo, Fadeshola Atilade 0., Obayelu Igbekele, Ibojo Bidemi, Ige Omomulawo and Sunday O. later ended at ‘Zero-Zero’ junction, the Point of Entry into Ilaje Local government on the said day.
