JUST IN: EFCC Detains Deputy Senate President, Ekweremadu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has reportedly taken the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu into their custody.
According to Premium Times, Ekweremadu appeared at the anti-graft agency’s office in Abuja around 9 am today.
A source that confided in the media house confirmed his arrest saying: “He (Ekweremadu) is currently at the interrogation room”.
Another EFCC staff also said Mr Ekweremadu is with anti-graft detectives, but could not say when he would be released.
“We have some questions for him
bordering on corruption.”
“But we do not know yet when he would be released, we will know this by 5:00 p.m”, the anonymous source stated.
The Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker was invited for questioning by EFCC on case of conspiracy, abuse of office and money laundering.
The Tuesday next to the summoning, EFCC operatives were reported to have besieged his residential apartment in Abuja and the senator was unable to attned the plenary that day.
To ascertain the news about his remand in EFCC’s custody, Ekweremadu’s spokesperson, Uche Anichukwu was reached but he could not comment as the aide noted he was “boarding” a flight.
However, Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesperson for the EFCC, said he would need some time to find out details of Mr Ekweremadu’s presence at the anti-graft office.
