AEDC Breaks Silence On Abuja Power Outage
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has attributed the power outage being experienced in Abuja to the vandalisation of a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) tower, along the 330kV Gwagwalada-Katampe transmission line.
The distribution company in a statement released through its verified X(formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday morning, said the incident reduced bulk power supply flexibility and the volume of power into Abuja by 250MW.
It further revealed that the vandalization of the line, tagged ‘Tower 70’, occurred on 26th February, at about 11.32 p.m.
“We regret to inform our customers in Abuja and environs that there has been an unfortunate incident impacting the power supply in various parts of Abuja. On the 26th of February, at approximately 11:32pm, a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) tower, along the 330kV Gwagwalada-Katampe transmission line was severely vandalised” the statement reads in part.
“This act of vandalism has significantly disrupted the flow of bulk power supply into Abuja, resulting in a reduction of 250MW (megawatts) and subsequently causing power outage in many areas.” It added.
