Ikubese Celebrates Obasanjo at 86
Former Presidential aspirant and convener of the YesWeFit revolutionary movement, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese has celebrated former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he clocked 86 years of age on Sunday.
Ikubese, in a statement made available to journalists, showered encomiums on the former president, for his consistent efforts to make Nigeria a better country, since he left the office of the president many years ago.
Below is the statement unedited:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABA
As you clock 86, I celebrate you.
You’ve been in and out of “power”, positing your contribution to the development of the Nigerian state.
As you clock 86 today, I celebrate you. Not because you couldn’t have done better for Nigeria while you presided over our affairs, but because even after exiting the highest office in the land, you’ve always spoken up whenever you perceive that the ship of the Nigerian state is sailing amiss, not minding whose ox is gored.
For many who have attained your height, they’ll rather be diplomatically quiet, than speak out and step on toes. But not so for you.
Your pen never runs dry…
Whenever you perceive an error, you pen down your fears, rudder solutions and make same available that the delicate ship of nationhood be not wrecked asore.
For this, many hate you and call you names, more so when your letters scratch the dermis of their principal and lacerate the tissues of their political and economic interests.
“Wilson, I’m excited that you’re taking up the challenge of running for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The youths should stand up, take back their country and turn it around for good”. Those were your words to me in 2018.
Ever since, the youths have painstakingly galvanized their energy to seeing the birth of a New Nigeria, where the son of a “nobody” can become “somebody” without knowing “anybody”.
Happy birthday, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
May the New Nigeria you discussed with me be birthed in your lifetime!
Thomas-Wilson Ikubese
