Faboyede’s Detention Callous, Politically Motivated – PDP Chieftain, Okunomo

The Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state, Hon. Banji Okunomo has condemned the recent detention of Mr. Clement faboyede, the party state chairman by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over some allegations upon a probe into the party campaign fund.

Mr. Faboyede and Mr. Adetokunbo Modupe were on Friday 29th August remanded by a Lagos state high court, following their appearances over alleged money Laundering and other charges.

Reacting to their remand in Akure, Mr. Okunomo said:

‘The travails of the Ondo state PDP chairman is from all intents politically motivated, it has no bearing in law, and at the end of the pending court case, I’m sure he will be vindicated.’

‘It is quite unfortunate that we have found ourselves in this political quagmire and economic comatose. the government of the day, both at state and federal level is not only been totally insensitive to the plight of the people, but has always found time for pettiness.

We are not against the fight against corruption, but where it is done selectively and in a discriminating manner to target the opposition, questions must be raised, and all of us can not be killed for raising voices against the forces of oppression.’

‘The question to Ask the APC government is this, if they are probing into the PDP campaign funds and apprehending the Party chairman over the probe. Was it only PDP that participated in the election? Has APC come out to probe into the sources of their own campaign funds? If they have not, then they don’t have the justification to probe into other parties campaign fund.
We therefore say that this is wicked, callous and capable of truncating our democracy.’

‘The APC government must fulfill their promise of alleviating the suffering of the people and stop this pettiness. All we are reading and hearing about are the activities of their wives and nothing is said about what they are doing in office.’

‘We have endured enough, we are therefore demanding an unconditional release of engineer Faboyede for he has not erred in the eye of the law, because an accused is not guilty of an offence until pronounced otherwise by a court of competent jurisdiction. Sections 34, 35, 36 & 37 of our constitution, which confers certain fundamental rights on the citizens have been fatally vitiated and we can not continue like this’ he concluded
