#EndSARS: Soldiers storm Abuja streets

Men of the Nigerian Army on Monday took-over the AYA-Abacha Barack-Karu site axis of the Federal capital territory, Abuja.

This development comes amid protests by Nigerians demanding an end to police brutality and a reform of the force.

The #EndSARS protests have continued for over a week across the country, recording no fewer the 12 deaths of the Protesters.

The army had issued a statement, saying it would embark on a nationwide operation codenamed, ‘Crocodile Smile’.

Civil society organisations had kicked against the army’s plan to deploy soldiers in the streets to clamp down on protesters.

Although, Nigeriancablenewsonline.com reported how the army said its operation was not targeted at protesters, on Monday, soldiers were seen lined up on major roads across the FCT.

Many concerned citizens, including a human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN had warned the army leadership of consequences if soldiers unleashed violence on protesters.

The Protesters, who blocked the Yanyan-Mararaba road at the Kugbo axis in Abuja as early as 7:00am had faced attacks by thugs wielding clubs and machetes on Wednesday.

Anthony Onome, a protester, was stabbed on Saturday when he and other agitators protesting against police brutality were attacked by hoodlums in the Kubwa area of the FCT.

His death was announced on the ‘sorosoke’ online Radio on Sunday.
