EFCC, Customs Agree To Arrest Fayose On Attempt To Flee

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) and the Nigeria customs service have agreed to apprehend outgoing Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, if he makes attempt to flee the country immediately after relinquishing power later next month.

Fayose had earlier sent a letter to the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu Informing him that he would provide himself at their office in Abuja the next day after handing over to the Governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi on October 16, to answer questions on alleged abuse of office, money laundering, among others.

Consequently, the anti-graft agency alerted the comptroller-general of customs to place Fayose on its watch-list and arrest him if he nears the land borders, airports or seaports of Nigeria.

In a letter signed by Magu dated September 12, EFCC state that it has a suspicion of his planned escape to dodge prosecution.

“There is a reasonable suspicion suggesting that he may likely leave the country either through the land borders, airports or seaports in order to evade investigation.

Hence, you are kindly requested to watch-list him and arrest him,” read the letter signed by Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.

In its response, the customs instructed all zonal coordinators, area commanders and comptrollers to monitor Fayose.

“Consequently, you are requested to monitor the subject and report to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission through the provided contact details if sighted,” the customs wrote in a letter dated September
14.
