Edo Women Begin ‘Fulani Must Go’ Protest

Women in Uromi Community of Edo state have started a protest against the continued stay of Fulani herders in the community.

The women, who flooded major Roads in the community on Wednesday demanded that the Fulanis must leave their community.

They accused the Fulanis of commiting various crimes and constituting major security threat, adding that they can no longer go to their farms, due to the fear that they may be killed by herdsmen.

They were seen blocking major roads in the town while chanting ‘FulanimustGo’.

It was gathered that today’s Protest was motivated by the death of a popular U.S based son of the community in the hands of Kidnappers after collecting ransom to release him.

Nigerian cable news online also gathered that victim was kidnapped on his way to the Lagos Airport, while returning abroad after spending time in the community during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Nigeriancablenewsonline.com reported how Herdsmen attacked a farmer in Akure with machetes two weeks ago, leaving him seriously injured after confronting them for feeding his Planted Cassava and Yam tubers to their cows.

While many complains and individual Protests have followed several Reports of Raping, Kidnapping and farm encroachment by the herder in many southwest states. Wednesday’s Protest is the first of it’s kind in Edo state recent history.
